3G PITCH REPLACEMENT

Adsum Sport and Play brings more than 25 years of experience to 3G pitch resurfacing, helping facilities replace ageing surfaces with modern, high performance systems that meet current standards for safety and playability. Our work is primarily focused within the counties surrounding our Buckinghamshire headquarters, supported by a national footprint that allows us to deliver consistently wherever our clients are based.

After many years of heavy use, environmental exposure and natural fibre breakdown, 3G surfaces eventually lose their performance characteristics and require full replacement. Resurfacing involves removing the existing carpet, assessing the underlying base, installing a new shock pad where required and fitting a modern 3G system that restores traction, ball behaviour and overall safety.

We manage resurfacing projects through a Prime Contractor model, overseeing planning, governance and quality assurance while working with trusted local subcontractors for specialist installation. This ensures every resurfaced 3G pitch is delivered to a high standard, technically robust and ready for intensive year round use.

10 SIGNS YOUR 3G PITCH NEEDS REPLACING

  1. Flattened or matted fibres
When the pile no longer stands upright and brushing no longer restores it, the carpet has lost its performance characteristics.
  2. Excessive infill splash or displacement
Rubber infill kicking up during play or gathering in piles indicates the system is no longer retaining infill effectively.
  3. Hard, compacted surface
If the pitch feels firm underfoot or fails shock‑absorption tests, the carpet and infill have reached the end of their functional life.
  4. Inconsistent ball roll and bounce
Uneven performance across the pitch — especially slow or unpredictable ball behaviour — is a key indicator of wear.
  5. Visible seam failures
Open joints, lifted seams or exposed tape are clear safety hazards and often signal that the carpet has aged beyond repair.
  6. Worn high‑traffic areas
Goal mouths, centre circles and penalty spots showing fibre loss, thinning or exposed backing mean the surface is no longer fit for intensive use.
  7. Drainage problems
Puddling, slow drainage or water sitting on the surface after rain suggests the system is clogged or the carpet has compacted beyond recovery.
  8. Loose or migrating infill
Frequent top‑ups that no longer stabilise the surface indicate the carpet fibres can no longer hold infill correctly.
  9. Surface contamination
Moss, algae or fine debris embedded deep in the pile — even after professional cleaning — shows the carpet structure has broken down.
  10. Age beyond typical lifecycle
Most 3G pitches last 8–12 years depending on usage; once beyond this range, performance and safety standards usually decline rapidly.

OUR APPROACH TO PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Successful sports facility projects rely on a clear process and a good understanding of what the client needs the space to deliver. At Adsum Sport and Play, we begin by looking closely at how the facility will be used, the conditions on site and any constraints that may influence the design or programme. This helps shape the scope of work from the outset and ensures that decisions made early on support the long term performance and reliability of the finished facility.

Much of our work centres on project management and the coordination of specialist subcontractors, supported by our own direct construction capability where it adds value. Because of this, the way we plan, monitor and communicate on site is an important part of how we work. We spend time with clients during key stages so that progress, challenges and next steps can be reviewed together. This practical, collaborative approach helps maintain consistency across projects and ensures that each stage is completed correctly.
